Some misconceptions practically illustrate themselves.<\/p>
Big Ben has a tower.<\/p>
The Escape Goat has a goat.<\/p>
The Damp Squid, regrettably, has a squid.<\/p>
But \u201cfor all intents and purposes\u201d presented a rather different challenge.<\/p>
My first idea involved an abstract explosion of colour. Intense colours, naturally. While suitably intensive, it was perhaps too abstract and not quite in keeping with the collection.<\/p>
The problem became something of a puzzle. How does one illustrate unnecessary complexity?<\/p>
Eventually, after a period best described as \u201cfor all intensive purposes\u201d, the answer emerged.<\/p>
Not another animal.<\/p>
Not another landmark.<\/p>
But a feat of engineering.<\/p>
Something that Doc Brown might have sketched on the back of a napkin after three espressos and an unfortunate misunderstanding of English idioms.<\/p>
Thus, the Victorian Egg-Cracking Apparatus was born.<\/p>
An absurd machine involving gears, levers, springs and entirely unnecessary complexity, all dedicated to the task of opening a single egg.<\/p>
Which, when you think about it, is rather fitting.<\/p>
Because replacing \u201cintents\u201d with \u201cintensive\u201d is itself an unnecessarily complicated solution to a problem that never existed.<\/p>
